Boarding Schools : Still used today

Boarding schools are still preferred by many parents today. This is because these schools still have a lot more to give to the students as compared to the conventional schools. Besides accommodation and meals, these schools give the students a chance to experience a better studying environment, not forgetting the opportunity to interact with all those other students in their own level. All these come with a little extra cost though.

Today most of the students attend public schools in the western countries. Therefore they don’t understand the concept of Boarding schools. The concept of living and studying together is beyond their understanding. Boarding schools have developed at lot in the recent years. Some focus on craft and art, some on religious education and some on military training.

There are a lot of advantages that one enjoys when they choose boarding schools over public schools. One of these advantages is a wider and better platform for student interactions. That means that students get to learn a lot from one another in a friendly way. This makes them less dependent on their parents. The sense of responsibility is also impacted on the child, and the child can be trusted to do his work without needing any assistance.

Education on the other hand in Boarding schools is the best as the faculty recruited in these schools hold higher education, so that the level of education standards goes higher.

There is individualized attention given to each and every student in the boarding schools. If a student is weak in a particular area, private tuition is given to that student to make him at par with the others. This rarely happens in public schools. Boarding schools also offer the students the best training on personal management.

Life for a child in Boarding schools is very much different than other public schools. The relationship shared between the student and the teacher is that of a friendship. Teachers are often looked upon as mentors. Friendships among the children are strengthened in this platform. Children develop a sharing and caring attitude towards others which helps them to be a perfect human being in the future. Children help each other in studies and in other activities. This helps in their mental and physical development.

Boarding schools provide the opportunity for every child to develop their talents other than studies. Every child is given personal care and is well looked after. Children do not develop a selfish attitude as they do if they stick to their parents and get pampered all the time.

The type of life that students in a boarding school live is similar to that of a team helping each other. This helps them to eliminate the selfishness in their mentality and learn how to be independent. Pampering a child may have very negative consequences. The best place where your child needs to be is in a boarding school. It is the best place for the proper development of a child.

Common For Military Brats To Go To Boarding School?

Military Boarding Schools

Some common Questions....
  • At what age do they tend to go?
  • Do they go to a school in their home country or the country where their family is (like an international school)?
  • Are there special boarding schools for military children?
  • Why are they sent to boarding school?

Answer 1

I lived overseas for 8 years in DODDS schools, which is for American kids from military parents stationed overseas. . No one I ever met ever or heard of over there was sent to a boarding school… and when we lived in the states I attended normal public schools as would any other child.
In London we had London Central High School – which had dorms. Kids were sent to live and attend high school there if thier parent was stationed too far away from the school. It was the last overseas military school that did dorming, but it closed down 1-2 years ago.

Answer 2

Well, I’m an army brat and have lived on 3 different bases throughout my life so far, and I’ve never heard of anyone going to boarding school. We all just go to public school on base or a public school near the base. I’ve never heard of a special boarding school for us brats except for something in London that closed or whatever.
In foreign countries, we go to schools on base and my one friend went to a school for English speakers.
If the parents want to send their kids to boarding school, they can, just like any other parent…But I’ve never heard of that before I saw this question.

Answer 3

there is ONE duty station where kids are sent at government expense to a boarding school in London because there are no schools on or off base there. I want to say the duty station is like Turkey or something..
otherwise.. if any attend BS it’s because their parents chose to send them at considerable personal expense..

Answer 4

Children of military parents do not typically go to boarding schools! They go to local schools that are provided by the military(in foreign countries)and by local schools in the states.

Answer 5

Children of military personnel attend school near where the parent is stationed. Military personnel could not afford to send their children to boarding school
